Worthiness and the Ability to Receive

(not an Amazon Delivery)

Give a little bit
Oh, give a little bit of your love to me
I'll give a little bit
I'll give a little bit of my love to you
There's so much that we need to share
So send a smile and show you care

-Supertramp

I say we are good at love! I say we are good at giving! We have learned it… how to give, and what to give from the time we were young. We have lessons on sharing and giving. We sing about it. We talk about it.

We show love by giving. We know we are loved by gifts. It is a barometer in love for us

I give you everything I am

I would give anything I own

I’d give up my life, my heart, my home..

-David Gates

Give and there is joy to giving but it is more than that! In the true spirit of giving it is comparable to the trees that give and the wheat that grows. We give so that we “may live, for to withhold is to perish” We give because we are an extension and witness to Source who gives unconditionally. It isn’t even ours, that which we give. It is a wee sip of water comparable to the Infinite oceans of Source and so worthiness is not even a factor in giving and certainly not a factor in receiving.

But- what about receiving? Nobody teaches how to receive unless it comes from Amazon. There are no songs written about receiving and accepting the giving and this is where we fall down. We are not good at it. Nobody taught us. We bring worthiness into it and that has nothing to do with it. We think “Are we entitled to receive? Are we deserving/ worthy of receiving?” despite the fact that those giving are merely witness to Source’s blessings. Nothing is owned, even as our children are not owned but belong of this world and only in our care for a short time.

When we don’t receive we block the abundance of Source. We rob those of the ability to give, their joy and their witness to Source’s infinite bounty for the truth is we are all receivers. We receive from Source every single day and it has nothing to do with worthiness. We learned that in a shame- based world that compares and assigns our roles in the world and we bought these antiquated ideals hook, line and sinker. Abundance belongs to everyone and to no one. We witness it and we pass it along and when we assume a weight (sometimes a guilt of gratitude), we “lay a yoke upon “ ourselves “ and upon him who gives.” Abundance is not a judgement or weight, or a mercy. It simply is.

We are worthy of nights and days of sun and air. We are worthy of life. Surely we are worthy of any little thing then?

It is the man- made world that taught us we are not worthy to receive. Unworthiness is a dysfunctional core belief that we work hard to prove to ourselves daily. As an extension of Source we were born worthy. Abundance is energy that that passes through us, around us, from us and to us. It is always there. It is always enough. It is always flowing. We block in with our man made deceptions.

So let’s learn to receive. Let’s get good at it. Let’s not sit in guilt, judging ourselves. Let’s accept, say thank you to Source and move on. Let it be lighter and not transactional.

Moving somewhere comfortable I invite you to take some deep breaths in and some even longer breaths out, until your system settles letting the Peace we were born to settle in your mind and your body.

And when you are ready, just imagine, only imagine that colourful waves of light pour through your body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes. I invite you to feel them as they renew your body and align you with Source energy.

Continue until you feel ready to be done, (the internal nudge) and feel the calmness of you.

Your first lesson in Receiving. Check.

As you practice receiving this week every time someone passes you a compliment or gives you a gift remind yourself not to judge it, not to explain it away, not to discount it or fluff it of but simply to witness that beautiful example of Source energy moving through you and say thank you.

For a good read, The Prophet by Khalil Gibran. He speak eloquently on receiving and giving and several of these quotes are his.

Love and Blessings to you,

Robin

Can't we try just a little bit harder?
Can't we give just a little bit more?
Can't we try to understand
That it's love we're fighting for?
